Centaurea cyanus, commonly known as blue cornflower or bachelor’s button, is a hardy annual flowering plant and also the national flower of Germany. The cornflower has edible flowers that can be used for culinary decoration, for example to add colour to salads.
Cornflower is an herb. The dried flowers are used to make medicine. People take cornflower tea to treat fever, constipation, water retention, and chest congestion. They also take it as a tonic, bitter, and liver and gallbladder stimulant.
